Cecil Eugene "Gene"  Swaim
Cecil Eugene "Gene" Swaim, 79, of Crossville passed away peacefully Friday morning surrounded by his family after a long and courageous battle with cancer.
A Celebration of Life service is planned at 11 am Monday at Central Baptist Church with Pastors Roland Smith and Billy Kemp officiating. A private inturnment will take place at East Tennessee State Veterans Cemetery where military honors will be accorded. An e-book is available to sign at www.finalcarecremation.com
The family suggests memorials be made to Cumberland House of Crossville, TN. (cumberlandhospice.com)
Gene was born September 15, 1936 in Estillfork, Alabama to Charlie Grady and Lillie Dell Swaim. He married Myrna Medley of Harvey, IL on November 24, 1962.
His survivors include his wife, Myrna, Crossville; his daughters, Stacy (Todd) Sweet, Normal, IL; Shari (Glen) Davies, Fishers, IN; 5 grandchildren; one sister, Joyce (Jimmie) Sells, Winchester, TN several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by both parents.
Gene graduated from Paint Rock Valley High School, in Princeton, AL in 1954. Soon after graduation he relocated to the Chicagoland area where he worked several jobs.
His great love for his country led him to serve in the US Air Force form 1957 - 1960 where he was stationed in Rockville, IN, and then in Anthony, Newfoundland where he was a skilled Radar Technician.
After serving our country his professional career included 20 yrs at Allis Chalmers Engine Division as an Electronics Technician. Soon after, he pursued higher education at Prairie State College where he received a Certificate in Industrial Management. Gene was employed at Peddinghaus Corporation, Bradley, IL where he was recognized as an expert in his field as an Electronics & Field Service Technician. He retired in 2005 and relocated with Myrna to Crossville, TN.
Gene was a true servant leader and a kind, loving husband and father. He often lent a helping hand to his neighbors. He was a member of the Central Baptist Church where he enjoyed assisting with the Christmas Toy Store outreach. He also volunteered monthly with Cert International. He had a great love of Bluegrass & Gospel music. He and Myrna often traveled to many musical events together.
He will be greatly missed by all.
The family would like to express a heartfelt thank you to Cumberland House for the wonderful care given to Gene in his last days.
