Obituary

James Thomas Binns Jr.(Jim) 97, passed away April 4th 2020.

Jim was born January 4th, 1923 to James Thomas Binns Sr. and Lena Moss Binns in Nashville, Tennessee.

He is preceded in death by his wife Francis Selene Bragg Binns, his son Thomas Andrew and his daughter Mary Katherine.

He is survived by his daughter Laura Anne and his son William Alexander.

He enjoyed sports and most especially baseball in and around Nashville in his early years. He studied Aeronautical Engineering at Vanderbilt University for two years prior to answering the call of the military in 1943 and participating in WWII as a Crew Chief on B24 and B29 airplane maintenance. Upon his return to Nashville he completed his studies at Vanderbilt. Due to his ascent in his career he moved to Manchester, Tn with his family and worked until retirement from Arnold Engineering & Development Center where he applied his talents to the development of aircraft that would send the first men to the moon. He was a Little League baseball coach, a Boy Scout leader, a much loved husband and father, avid golfer and lived life to the fullest. He had a passion for flying and flew Search and Rescue with the Civil Air Patrol. He flew gliders and experimental aircraft for fun and loved his old 1972 Electra Glide in blue Harley Davidson.

He will be sorely missed and fondly remembered by friends, family and those he touched and inspired throughout his life.

Raymond chose cremation, the family followed his wishes and a celebration of his life will be held at a later date.
